Nutrition: Very Important

The increased activity and nutrition needs are completely different from sitting in a pub. Everything speeds up. Texas heat only adds to it.

  1. Drink more water than beer. Alcohol causes you to dehydrate so if you are drinking beer you are not even coming close to being hydrated properly. Drink twice the water as you would beer.
  2. Eat a large breakfast before you go on your ride.
  3. Eat high-carb foods while on your ride. Like bread (poor boys) or potatoes (French fries). It will not sober you up but it will slow the absorption of alcohol into your system. Cliff bars do not work well and caffeine just makes you a wide awake drunk.
  4. When you have stopped drinking you have about 30 to 45 minutes before all of the alcohol is in your system fully. That is when the trouble starts and you become impaired beyond control. So get to a safe place quickly after the tour stops. Do not leave your bicycle at any of the breweries.
